JOIN US!
The Yoshimatsu lab are looking for highly motivated students to join our research team!
Undergraduate students: If you are interested in getting involved in research projects on biopolymers and peptide-based therapeutics, please send an e-mail to Prof. Yoshimatsu (KYoshimatsu@MissouriState.edu) for further inquiries on research opportunities. Inquiries from undergraduate students in the Chemistry and Biochemistry Program as well as other related programs are always welcome.
Completion of at least one semester of Organic Chemistry would be helpful in carrying out research projects in our group, but this is not a requirement. The minimum requirements for joining our group is your enthusiasm and the completion of General Chemistry I lecture (CHM 160).
Master's students: Prospective Master's students are encouraged to submit an applications to the Chemistry Graduate Programs at Missouri State University. Our program offers Graduate Assistantships (GA) to qualified students. The GA offers will be addressed at the time of admission decision. New graduate students who are interested in our research should directly contact Prof. Yoshimatsu.
Core Values
1) Perform high-quality research. Good science is built upon a good record-keeping practice, a good work ethic, carefully conducted experiments, rigorous data analysis, critical thinking, and the knowledge discovered by predecessors. There are many things to learn for doing these well but you will learn them one by one. Writing a good report and giving a good presentation are also integral parts of performing high-quality research.
2) Be a good team worker. Good communication with other team members makes you more productive. Senior students help Prof. Yoshimatsu mentor junior students. We all work together to help everyone's progress.
3) Ask questions! Enjoy learning and discovery. Ask me questions to learn new things. Ask questions to other team members. The result of your work is an exciting discovery. Talk about your project inside and outside of the lab. You can learn a lot from other people through conversations.
4) Rigorous Science, Rigorous Training. I expect all students leave the lab with research skills, knowledge in the area of your project, a strong work ethic, and confidence for pursuing a career or Ph.D. study. Involving in research projects does require significant commitment. However, it provides an excellent opportunity for personal and professional growth so it is highly rewarding.
